What is photography ? Photography is the result of combining several different types of discoveries. Photography comes from the Greek words photo meaning light and graph meaning drawing , so put together photography is light drawing. The first photograph was in 1826 by a French inventor Joseph Nicephore Niepce. His photographs were published on a pewter plate. Which was later on accidentally destroyed. Then he started experimenting with silver compounds that darkened in the light. Joseph became partners with Louis Daguerre and enhanced the silver process. Later on Neipce died of a stroke and left his notes with Daguerre. Daguerre made two drastic contributes that made improvements. He later announced in 1839 that he had invented a process using silver on a copper plate that he called the daguerreotype then after the French heard about it they made it public domain. Fox Talbot invented something similar to the daguerreotype called a calotype with reproduced positive prints like most films do today unlike the daguerreotype. Talbot patented this process but it didn’t end well it ended in lawsuits so he gave up on photography. This is a little bit of history about photography I never knew but now know about.
